explore: the melt

Lately, I’ve been spending a considerable amount of time in Downtown Berkeley, which is super fun! This partly due to the  discovery of my new favorite vintage spot, Mars. However, there is even more fun to be had at a restaurant across the street called The Melt. They sell the greatest food on earth: GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES. After passing by it dozens of times these past few weeks, I finally made it my goal to go there last week. It was probably the highlight of my week. Seriously.

The menu is set up like a grilled cheese sandwich bar, so they have a few sandwiches to choose from (just different combinations of breads + cheeses) and then if you want, you can choose to deck out your sandwich with different add-ins. I ordered the Mission sandwich, which is pepper jack cheese on sourdough bread, with spinach and tomatoes added in. When I got my sandwich, it seemed to be coated in a herb blend which was pretty mind-blowing to me. (Note to self: when making a sandwich at home, sprinkle herbs on top!)

Long story short, my sandwich was nothing short of life-changing and I will most definitely be returning in the very near future! They also serve breakfast sandwiches, so maybe I’ll get one of those!

P.S. The Melt is also located across the street from a dessert place called C.R.E.A.M. that sells build-your-own ice cream sandwiches. I was there a few weeks ago, but I NEED to go again, and this time bring my camera so that I can post about it here! So if you’re really in for your fill of sandwiches with a dairy-based center, (how many times can I say sandwich in this post?), you might want to hit them up for a sweet treat after the Melt!
